Galliano & Why MLK is fucking pissed at You.

I know that Galliano hasn't been painted the the best of lights, however his SS2012 collection is brilliant & worth maybe a little more than an exaggerated racial slur, yeah? Fuck it, maybe not, but the line is tight;)

I know it's MLK day and the best and most promulgated way we have come up with to honor this fucking man is to name the most ghetto of streets in his honor. Kind of an oxymoron and shameful; one would think that due to the nature of who are president is, the information available to young people stating exactly how prolific and brave this man was, there would be something more substantial, ongoing and meaningful than an annual gathering in DC or somewhere that held similar sentiment. Sadly, with the 60's died a passion severe and a collectible conscious that may not be seen again, at least not for the powers of good.
White people: I m asking you to not be nice and overly compensating to African Americans today, but how about just treat everybody like gold every fucking day. The concept is a mutual and general respect for everyone you come in contact with. African Americans: You don't have to be so defensive about anything that may be different presented by someone other than familiar to you. Ex: When I stop my vehicle on Memorial Drive & you are walking across the crosswalk, there is nothing about my face that merits the stare down I receive.
Everyone is guilty of it; Mid American Mac & Cheese eaters, myself, everyone. You can't really single out one race of another because we all feel a certain way about certain people, thing etc...
Listen, I get it & you (everyone) have a right to feel how you feel & do what you do, but work on the healing. I m Native American and have absolutely no holidays dedicated to my people, though we all know how fucked THAT is.
If we all collectively began to work on the general conscious of awareness of others and truly see how this is all the same bag of chips, we can begin to all "get it" & stop letting the fear of everything instill the shitstorms that get taken out on everyone else. It starts with one. I know this is very "The More You Know...." but I m over this shit and people are too smart to keep ignoring what we all know and no one says. Take your dignity off the shelf, dust that bitch off and put it back on the clock. XO

Hippie Spiritual & Nick Mauss.

Isn't it odd when you think of how much you have been through, seen, done and lived through in this body that you have now. When I think of being and shooting dope on Houston on the side of a stoop, it's really hard to fathom why I have not descended to the bottom of the food chain.
All the abscesses, jumps off buildings, getting stuck on top of a chain link fence, getting dragged by a car, handing my newborn daughter over to a moral pariah, all of these things should have & could have killed me, but all I left those experiences with are scars.....pretty good, all & all.
I tend to have these astral moments when I am at my most calm, so that this is rearing it's head is a positive experience, it means I am in a posture of humility, for the meantime anyway. Taking my flair for arrogance and head bashing into consideration, I had best soak it up now before I turn into a fuckwit again.

Steve Martin wants me to get a cab & the Led is OUT.

Dreams never cease to amaze me. I just came from a party Steve Martin was throwing (have not watched ANYTHING with him in it recently enough to validate his presence) that had some kind of beach obstacle course and then a full blown nightmare of a party started; blondes with flowers in their hair toting around hard lemonade and fake & bake douchers with tribal bands; that kind of thing. When I asked if anyone could give me a ride home, some A hole replied "Call a cab man."
Usually me dreams are beyond odd, Matt is usually made of candy, he winks at me a lot and there are fantasy animals and mob bosses in them, but I draw the line when the scene at Bar A invades my REM. I will not be having a dream like this again. Taking measures..

In greener and less drunk pastures, I have been letting the Led out daily. I don't know a soul & don't want to know one who does not LOVE Led Zeppelin. I love 70's epic rock the way I love Punk, Bowie, Waits & Iggy Pop. You could tell me any of these people did a cameo on Jersey Shore, & all would still be forgiven, that's how much I Tiger Beat them.
Though my first experiences of these bands came via a horrific junkie, ie, my Mom; I could still see the brilliance that these bands emanated. That energy has never left me & if if anything has set the bar for music for me which lends to me being judgmental about the majority of new music, especially for the masses. However, that is not something I m looking to alter;)

Commit today to hitting those high notes in your car and banging the shit out of the steering wheel while in the car driving through shit to do in your life and recap the feeling you had when you first heard Black Dog.....I still get goose bumps. You wanna be real about it, get some 5 inch platforms; either way, perform that fucking march and appreciate those way pavers. Blink 182 says you have a small penis and you fancy wearing days of the week drawers, not attractive. XO

Fuck.

I have been working on my book all morning. I am in the home stretch now and it feels surreal. These experiences do not feel like my own and I am petrified to have it be successful. I feel so ....something. It almost feels like I have schemed to do dope all day, made all the necessary preparations, lied to who I had to lie to, did what I needed to do and now it's just me and the beast. I should feel ecstatic, but I feel a little sad, a little liberated and an unnerving sense of identifiable fear of what, I don't know.
Nothing has frightened me more than the reality that I could be better than I ever thought and do what I never thought I could. This is not a fish for validation or even kind words, thoughts or feedback, I detest those things because I m so arrogant, however, I need to get it away from me due to my own poor digestion for such things.
My God, the life I have lived so far is........well, ambiguous in it's concern for my lack of wanting life and has afforded me one that could not have dreamed and that is saying something.
There is no point, no funny line for you to catch, no purpose to serve other than my own today. Maybe tomorrow will be an informative blurb about fashion, rants, recipes or judgement, but for today, I am scared, elated and not ok with those things but perhaps can be ok with them. What choice do I really have?

Gary Graham & PIZZA!

I adore anyone fighting the boring humdrum of predictable & void lulling fashion Ferris wheel that ambulates with every approaching season. Certain aspects are to be expected. Spring will always beget florals, whimsical nostalgia paired with contemporary cuts, however Gary Graham is making it Legend (starring Tim Curry in his best role since Rocky Horror)combining that ideal with a splash of grit. Spring has never looked so inviting and less Easter inspired. Easter is the meaningful equivalent of Valentine's Day. Doesn't really exist, monetarily lucrative, and has nothing to do with the essence of the fallacious meaning it has posed in the first place.....just saying.
Anyhoo, pretty/ ugly is never a bust & Gary Graham is killing it.
Gary Graham: 2011 & Spring 2012. (AAAAHH!)

It's Saturday & that means Pizza. What cannot be cured by pizza is a lost cause, and by all means you should keep taking the meds. This recipe is from The Post Punk Kitchen. ENJOY!!!!
Romesco Pizza With Caramelized Onions & Squash
by IsaChandra

You’ll need:
2 balls of pizza dough, for 2 large pizzas
Olive oil for brushing

For the caramelized onions:
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 large yellow onions
big pinch salt

For the sauce:
1 1/2 cups slivered almonds
4 red bell roasted peppers (you can also drained, jarred roasted red peppers)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion
5 cloves garlic, minced
Fresh black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/2 teasoon salt
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon agave nectar

For the squash:
1 large yellow squash, sliced into paper thin ribbons (with a mandoline or knife)

To make the caramelized onions:
The basic idea here is that you sweat the onions, which means you’ll be gently cooking them covered over low heat, and a lot of the cooking will be done from the steam as the water is released. You’re coaxing the sweetness out of them and locking it in. It looks like a lot of onion, and it is, but everything will cook down to manageable proportions, I promise. If you’ve never tasted caramelized onions, you might be surprised that an onion is even capable of this deep, sweet complexity, and with only two ingredients.

Preheat a heavy bottomed, preferably cast iron, skillet over low heat. Add the oil and the onions and toss the onions to coat. Cover and cook for 20 minutes, leaving a little gap for steam to escape. Stir occasionally, every 5 minutes or so. Onions should turn a nice mellow amber, but not burn, although a couple of darker spots are fine.

Remove the cover and turn the heat up just a bit, to a medium setting. Stir often for 10 more minutes. Onions should become a darker amber, and some of the moisture should evaporate. Transfer to a bowl until ready to use.

To make the romesco:
If your red peppers aren’t already roasted, then do it now. Just place them on a rimmed baking sheet, into a 425 F oven, and turn occasionally. They’re ready when they’re blackened and collapsed, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove them from oven and immediately place in a paper bag. This will steam the skin off as they cool. Place in the fridge and once cool, remove from bag, peel off skin and remove seeds.

Now toast the almonds. Preheat a large, heavy bottomed pan over medium low heat. Spread the almonds out in a single layer and toast frequently until fragrant and honey brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer almonds to a food processor. Now we’ll prepare the rest of the sauce.

In the same pan over medium high heat, saute onions in olive oil for 5 to 7 minutes with a pinch of salt, until lightly browned. Add garlic, several dashes fresh black pepper, dried marjoram and salt, and saute for 30 seconds more, then turn off the heat.

Now pulse the almonds in the food processor until they’re a finely ground powder. Add the roasted red peppers, the onion mixture and the red wine vinegar and agave nectar. Puree until fairly smooth. Taste for salt, and set aside until ready to use.

To assemble pizza:
Preheat oven to 500 F.

This post is getting really long, so it won’t be a treatise on how to perfectly roll out a pizza crust. But I’ll just say, use a lightly floured, cold surface and I’m just fine with using a rolling pin.

Roll dough out onto a large, lightly greased pizza pan. Spread a cup or so of romesco sauce onto the pizza. Place squash ribbons artfully over the sauce and drizzle with a little olive oil. Also, brush the crust with olive oil.

Place pizza on the bottom of the oven (yes, right on the bottom, no rack required) preferably on a pizza stone, but it’s ok if you don’t have one. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until crust is golden. Remove from oven, top with splotches of caramelized onion, sprinkle on some fresh black pepper if you like, slice and serve. Then prepare your next pizza the same way!
